Finding Antique Charms of the Future
With an enormous range of charms on offer in high street stores and online it is increasingly difficult to know what to buy, especially if you want to turn a fashion accessory into a possible collectors piece of the future. Antiques shops are filled with antique charm bracelets and antique charms which have been passed down from generation to generation and they now command a very high price in auctions and in antiques shops. So if you are looking to buy a contemporary charm bracelet, what should you be looking out for if you want it to be a collectable of the future?
Ideally you want to find something with general aesthetic appeal. The vast majority of girls who buy charms do so because they want to buy one which is personal, something which they can relate to, and one which they think reflects on their personality and the way in which the world looks at them. That is all very well, but if you want a charm which will become a collectable antique then you also want something with sufficient universal appeal that others will want to collect it and cherish it also.
Your charm has to be well made, or if you are buying an entire charm bracelet, it has to be of a high quality, ideally with the links soldered rather than just hung on a lobster clasp. Quality is an incredibly important factor in determining whether something will become a sought after antique in the future. Related to quality is the issue of what the charms and charm bracelet is made of. Whilst silver plate items are much cheaper to buy nowadays, ideally you want to buy a sterling silver charm if you want something which will retain its value over time. Sterling silver charms are much more sought after in today’s antiques market because they are of a very high quality, and likewise the antique charms of the future will be sterling silver charms and not plastic, plated or base metal ones.
